How to Add Brake Fluid to a Montero

Keeping an eye on the Mitsubishi Montero's brake fluid level is important for the safe continued operation of the vehicle. A low brake fluid level can lengthen stopping distances and adversely affect the operation of the braking system. Adding brake fluid to the Montero is a straightforward affair that can be completed in just a matter of minutes. If the brake fluid level is constantly low, the vehicle's brake system should be inspected for leaks.

Things You'll Need

  • DOT 3 brake fluid
  • Locate the hood release lever on the left side of the driver's side foot well and pull it to pop the hood. Walk to the front of the hood and locate the hood latch near the center of the hood. Pull the latch handle upward and lift the hood open.

  • Locate the brake master cylinder reservoir on the driver's side of the engine bay near the firewall. The reservoir is covered with a white cap. Remove the cap to access the reservoir.

  • Add the required amount of DOT 3 brake fluid until the fluid reaches the "MAX" fill line. Replace the cap on the reservoir and close the hood.
