How to Open an Autometer Gauge

Auto Meter manufactures aftermarket gauges for your vehicle. These gauges aren't secured with screws. So if you need to get inside the gauge, you won't be able to do it by standard disassembling. However, there is a way to get inside an Auto Meter gauge quickly, and it doesn't require you to know much about cars or electronics.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Turn off your car and open the hood. Unplug the cables running from the battery to the ports in the back of the gauge.

  • Insert the tip of your flat-head screwdriver in the gap in the dashboard where the gauge meets the dash. Gently work your way around the gauge and pry it out of the dash.

  • Insert the tip of your flat-head screwdriver in the seam where the metal ring around the front of the gauge meets the face of the gauge.

  • Work your way around the ring with the screwdriver until it pops off.

  • Remove the face of the gauge from the assembly. The gauge is now open.
