How to Repair an Engine Block Leak

The engine block protects many of the vital parts of your vehicle, as it contains the vehicle's cylinders and heads, crankshaft, oil pan and transmission. The block may wear down over time and start leaking oil into the interior of your vehicle, which can slow it down and pose safety hazards, especially if the vehicle is operating under high temperatures. Repair the leak in the engine block by finding and sealing it up tightly, to get the vehicle back to functioning in peak condition.

Things You'll Need

  • Towel
  • Epoxy glue
  • Popsicle stick
  • Engine Oil Stop-Leak
  • Pop up the hood of your vehicle and prop its holding wire up with your vehicle's wire hook.

  • Find your vehicle's engine block; its multiple open cylinders are right below the actual engine.

  • Locate the source of the leak by eye; there will probably be engine oil dripping from the block down into the interior of your vehicle.

  • Wipe the leak off gently with the towel.

  • Apply epoxy glue to the leak's source with the popsicle stick. The glue will seal the leak and prevent it from dripping more oil into your vehicle.

  • Unscrew the "Engine Oil" circular component, located across from the engine block, by hand. Pour the Engine Oil Stop-Leak into the component, and screw it back in to finish.
