The Nissan Maxima is a full-size, four-door vehicle manufactured from 1976 to the present. You can replace the window regulator on your Nissan Maxima right at home, saving yourself a trip to your mechanic. The window regulator is the mechanical device that holds the vehicle's side window in place and moves it up and down. You need to remove the inside door panel to access the regulator for replacement. This job requires a trip to your local auto parts store and about an hour-and-a-half of your time.
Lower the window you wish to work on.
Raise the front hood and remove the negative battery cable with an open-end wrench.
Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the bezel around the door handle. Also use the flat head screwdriver to pry off the window lock.
Unscrew the screws on the panel with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift up on the panel to release it from its clips. Unplug the wiring behind the panel.
Remove the waterproof plastic from the inside of the door. Unplug the window motor.
Remove the bolts holding the glass in place using a socket wrench. Remove the glass from the door by lifting it up and out of the regulator.
Remove the bolts holding the regulator to the door using the socket wrench. Remove the regulator from the door.
Remove the bolts on the window motor with a socket wrench. Pull the motor carefully off the cable housing.
Set the replacement regulator in the door by twisting it into place. .
Repeat Steps 1 through 8 in reverse order to put the new regulator in place.
