Windshield Washer Won't Work on My KIA Sportage

The KIA Sportage features a windshield wiper motor that doubles as a wiper fluid dispenser as well. As such, if your windshield washer is not working, the washer motor may need to be replaced. Before you do so, however, be sure to first inspect the fuse for the washer motor to make sure it is working properly. If the motor does need to be replaced, the procedure to do so is easy enough that you can save the money you would otherwise need for a mechanic, and perform the job yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet and socket
  • Drain pan
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable using a ratchet and socket, locate the washer motor along the firewall, pull the wiring harness from its connector, and pull the individual electrical connectors from their connectors with your fingers.

  • Label and remove the two washer hoses by unscrewing the hose clamps with a flat head screwdriver, but be careful to place a drain pan below the hoses to catch any washer fluid.

  • Remove the washer motor from the firewall using a ratchet and socket, install the new washer motor, and follow the previous steps in reverse to complete the installation. Afterwards, refill the wiper fluid tank.
