How to Replace a Jeep Wrangler's Back Window

The Jeep Wrangler is a popular Jeep designed with a soft-top that can be lowered for open-air operation. To allow the soft-top to be lower, the Jeep Wrangler is equipped with plastic side and rear windows. Unfortunately, however, the plastic side windows can become brittle and turn yellow over time, and thus require replacement. Fortunately, it's a procedure you can complete on your own.

Things You'll Need

  • No tools necessary
  • Open the rear door of the Jeep Wangler.

  • Locate the retainer bars at the bottom of the soft-top. These retainer bars secure the rear flaps of the soft-top to the body, and must be released to gain access to the rear window.

  • Firmly grip the lower retainer bar on each side and pull down slightly to release the bar from its bracing, and rotate it upward and away from the vehicle.

  • Unzip the rear window. The zipper runs from the driver side to the passenger side of the vehicle.

  • Position and zipper the new replacement window into the same location as the original. Firmly grip the retainer bars and pull down and over the rear brackets on both sides of the rear door to secure the soft-top.
