How to Change a Honda Odyssey Power Steering Pump

The power steering pump on your Honda Odyssey is mounted to the engine, toward the rear, on the driver's side. The power steering pump has a cap on the top that reads "Power Steering Fluid." Under the cap is a fluid tank, and under the fluid tank you'll find the power steering pump.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Pliers
  • Ratchet set
  • New pump
  • New pump fluid
  • Open the hood of the Honda Odyssey and locate the power steering pump. Use the wrench to remove the nut securing the belt pulley to the engine. Remove the belt from the pulley and remove the pulley from the engine housing.

  • Place the drain pan under the power steering pump to catch the fluid you will be draining. Use the pliers to loosen the nut connecting the hose to the top of the pump. Pull the hose up to disconnect the hose from the pump. Allow the fluid tank to drain completely.

  • Remove the four bolts securing the power steering pump to the engine, using the ratchet set. (There is one bolt in each corner of the power steering pump.) Pull the power steering pump out of the engine compartment.

  • Mount the new power steering pump to the engine in the same position as the old pump. Insert the bolt into the mounting holes, and use the ratchet set to tighten the bolt. Connect the power steering hose to the new power steering pump, and tighten the nut using the pliers.

  • Remount the belt pulley and replace the belt to the pulley. Fill the power steering fluid tank with new power steering fluid.

  • Turn on the engine and turn the wheel to the right and left a few times to ensure that the pump is working properly.
