How do I Turn Off the Light When the Airbag Is Permanently Removed in a Cadillac DeVille?

The Cadillac DeVille is a full-size luxury sedan that was manufactured by General Motors from 1949 until 2005. You can turn off the SRS light (Supplemental Restraint System) on your Cadillac DeVille when the airbag has been permanently removed. It is a simple fix that will take only about a half hour of your time to complete. Only a few tools are needed, and these can be purchased inexpensively from any hardware store..

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench set
  • Pull the hood release and prop up the hood with the safety bar. Find the negative battery terminal on the battery. Loosen the nut on the cable clamp on the negative battery terminal using a socket wrench. Set the clamp aside, making sure it does not touch the positive terminal.

  • Locate the rectangular fuse panel on the lower part of the driver's-side dashboard. Open the cover and look at the diagram on the back of it. Locate the SRS or airbag fuse on the diagram. Remove a fuse puller from the panel and use it to remove the fuse. Wait 30 minutes.

  • Replace the fuse puller and close the fuse panel. Put the negative cable clamp back on the battery terminal and tighten the nut. Lower the hood.

  • Start the engine. Make sure that the SRS light has shut off on the instrument panel. The computer has been reset and the light will stay off.
