How to Replace Mercury Villager Seats

The Villager is a mini-van designed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company sold under their Mercury name brand. The Villager was in production from 1993 to 2002. The Mercury Villager offers three rows of seating. The middle row, either a bench or two bucket seats, was removable. The third row of seating was not removable, but the row could be moved forward on the floor tracks to make more room for cargo. Removing and replacing the second row of seats is a fairly simple task that requires no tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Helper
  • Place the Villager in "Park" and turn the engine off. This will prevent any movement while replacing the seats.

  • Remove the second row of seats, if not already removed. The same process applies to bench and bucket seats, depending on which you have in your Villager.

  • Pull on the side lever and push the seat forward to fold the seatback flat. Pull up on the release straps on the side of the seat. This will release the rear floor latches for removal.

  • Lift the back of the seat up to the point that the seat clears the floor latches. Pull the seat rearward until the front hooks disengage fully. Have someone help you lift the seat out of the vehicle, as the seat is heavy and awkward.

  • Position the replacement seat in the Villager so that the front hooks and front anchors are in place. Push the seat forward to lock it into place. Slowly lower the back of the seat into place. Both rear latches will hook into place and engage.

  • Push the seat forward and backward to ensure the seat is secured in place. The seat should not move. If the seat is not properly secured, serious injury can occur.
