How to Oil an Ingersoll Rand Air Impact 231C

The Ingersoll Rand 231C series is the latest generation of air impact guns from the Rand Company as of 2010. To oil this impact gun you will use two separate components. One will be a grease gun, which can be any standardized model, and the other will be an oil can or applicator. This can be done with regular oiling equipment, or you can get a specific Ingersoll Rand lubrication kit that is made specifically for this job.

Things You'll Need

  • Ingersoll Rand Lubrication Kit or grease gun and impact wrench oil
  • Locate the grease ports on your Ingersoll rand 231C impact wrench. One will be found on the upper left near the front of the gun and one will be found on the upper back of the gun.

  • Squeeze one pump full of grease into each of these holes. Use either an Ingersoll Rand lubrication kit grease gun, or use any standard grease gun for this task. The upper left grease port only needs to be greased each time the gun is cleaned and reassembled. The upper rear grease port needs grease every 48 hours of actual use.

  • Oil the air intake after every 8 hours of actual use. Use several drops of Ingersoll Rand lubrication kit oil, or use a specific oil made for impact wrenches. Run the 231C impact wrench for approximately one minute to fully lubricate the inner mechanism.
