Smart cars are innovative and extremely fuel-efficient vehicles. If you have thorough knowledge of this vehicle and its parts, you may wish to service it yourself. When servicing your Smart car, keep in mind that the battery should be inspected and tested every 20,000 miles. The oil filter, engine oil, and wiper blades should be replaced every 10,000 miles, and the spark plugs should be replaced every 30,000 miles. Smart car servicing can be done with basic mechanical knowledge.
Lift the passenger carpet and take out the foam insert, then disconnect the battery ground line.
Remove the cover from the battery. Disconnect the positive cable that runs from the battery. Take off the clip from the positive cable that connects it to the bracket.
Unscrew the nut that is near the bracket and then remove the bracket.
Take the vent hose off of the battery and take out the battery.
Install the new battery and replace the vent hose.
Reattach the bracket back in and tighten the nut. Replace the clip on the positive cable and reconnect the cable to the battery.
Place the cover back on the battery and reconnect the battery ground line. Put the foam insert passenger carpet back in place.
Lift the rear carpet and take off the engine cover. Remove the seal ring on the oil drain screw and take off the screw. Let oil run into a drip pan.
Remove the oil drain filter screen and wipe it clean with a rag. Unscrew the oil filter and let the oil drip into the pan.
Use some clean oil and wet the sealing ring of the new filter. Tighten the new oil filter to the engine. The filter has specifications on how to do so. Place the new seal ring on the drain screw.
Remove the oil filler cap and pour the oil into the filler neck. Replace the oil filler neck cap.
Make sure that the car is not started and that the keys are not in the ignition.
Lift the rear carpet and take off the engine cover. Unclasp the electrical connector from the ignition coil and disconnect the connector
Remove the screw that is at the respective ignition coil and take out the coil.
Remove the spark plugs. Make sure that the spark plug gap is .035 inches.
Install the new spark plugs. Replace the ignition coil, screw, electrical connector, and carpet.
Fold up the wiper arms and squeeze the black release tabs inwards while pulling down.
Unhook the wiper blade from the guide and replace with new blade.
Lower the wiper arms to their original position.
