How Do I Reset a Mazda MX-5 CD Player?

Resetting the CD player in a Mazda MX-5 is done by cutting the power to the CD player and then restoring it. The loss of power will reset the unit completely. All settings, including time and radio station favorites, will be completely reset to their factory defaults. The easiest way to reset the CD player is to disconnect the car from the battery. This can be done safely and will automatically reset the CD player.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubber gloves
  • Wrench
  • Remove any jewelry. Rings or necklaces may accidentally touch the battery, causing a short. This can cause injury.

  • Put on rubber gloves. Rubber is a natural insulator and will protect against any electric shock. This is not necessary, but for those who are safety conscious it is a good idea.

  • Use a wrench and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Make sure that the cable, once disconnected, does not touch anything else, such as the body of the car.

  • Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery using a wrench.

  • Wait for a minute, then reattach the positive cable to the battery and secure it using a wrench. Connect the negative terminal of the battery after.

  • Turn on the car and inspect the CD player. It should now be reset. One way to ensure a successful reset has taken place is by checking the clock. If the clock is flashing or not indicating the right time, then it has been successful.
