Resetting the CD player in a Mazda MX-5 is done by cutting the power to the CD player and then restoring it. The loss of power will reset the unit completely. Use a wrench and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Make sure that the cable, once disconnected, does not touch anything else, such as the body of the car.
Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery using a wrench.
Wait for a minute, then reattach the positive cable to the battery and secure it using a wrench. Connect the negative terminal of the battery after.
Turn on the car and inspect the CD player. It should now be reset. One way to ensure a successful reset has taken place is by checking the clock. If the clock is flashing or not indicating the right time, then it has been successful.
