How to Remove a Seat from a Geo Prizm

Removing the seats in a Geo Prizm is a straightforward task that doesn't take long to accomplish. The front seats are bolted to the floorboard and the back seat is bolted to the rear dash. Removal of the seats is best done with the doors open so there is plenty of room to work. Purchase replacement seats at most automotive parts stores or online.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Socket wrench

Front Seats

  • Open the door to access the seat that needs to be removed. Slide the seat all the way up. This will make access to the back bolts simpler.

  • Use a socket wrench to unscrew the back two bolts. Slide the seat all the way back once the bolts are removed.

  • Use a socket wrench to unscrew the two front bolts. This will loosen the seat.

  • Lift the seat out of the car by hand. Use caution as it may be bulky and awkward to carry. Place the seat in a covered dry area. Place the bolts in a sealable bag so they can be used later.

Back Seat

  • Open the back door to access the back seat. Lift the seat bottom up and slide it out of the car. Lifting the seat will release the clips holding the seat securely. Place it in a dry covered area.

  • Unbolt the two bolts holding the seatback in position. Lift the seat up and out once the bolts are removed.

  • Place the seat in a dry covered area. Place the bolts with the seat so they do not get misplaced.
