How to Replace the Oil Dipstick on a VW Beetle

Changing the oil dipstick in a Volkswagon Beetle is one of the easiest car maintenance items you may have to do. The oil dipstick is used to check the condition of the motor oil and having it in good working order makes assessing the oil easier. Factory replacement oil dipsticks for your Volkswagon Beetle can be found online or at your local Volkswagon dealership.

Things You'll Need

  • Old rag
  • New oil dipstick
  • Locate the oil dipstick near the front of your Volkswagon Beetle's engine. The dipstick handle is in the shape of a circle and is located in front of the oil filter cap.

  • Pull up on the oil dipstick while keeping an old rag nearby to catch any oil drips. Continue pulling the oil dipstick in an upward motion until it is completely free of the engine.

  • Wipe the dipstick clean so that oil is not transferred onto clothing.

  • Place the tip of the new oil dipstick into the dipstick funnel and lower it until it is completely in place.
