How to Turn Your Car Trunk Into a Dresser

While suitcases making moving clothing and personal items easier, they often cause a wrinkled wardrobe. Numerous people often do not have the time when on a trip or moving to iron each article of clothing. Turning your car trunk into a dresser is an effective way to prevent unsightly wrinkles in your wardrobe and helps you organize. By keeping shoes, belts, shirts, pants and items with easy to wrinkle material in its proper location, you can create outfits quickly when on the move.

Things You'll Need

  • Handheld vacuum
  • Measuring tape
  • Plastic containers
  • Bins
  • Drawer organizers
  • Shoe storage
  • Hanging garment bag
  • Wrinkle releaser
  • Clean out the trunk of any dirty items, products that can leak or rusty tools. Vacuum the trunk with a handheld vacuum. Place a cloth over the spare tire to prevent the tire from leaving marks on your clothing. Measure the inside of your trunk to assess the size containers that you can use.

  • Place all small items, such as jewelry, belts and accessory items, inside a plastic container. Use plastic containers that have lids that lock. Roll up the belts to create more space. Fold underwear and socks and place in a plastic container. Place plastic containers on the bottom of the trunk to create a flat surface.

  • Fold articles of clothing. Organize the stacks of clothes by function. For instance, place casual pants and shirts into two stacks and clothes for business or going out into another stack. Place each pile of stacked clothing into a bin. Write on a piece of paper the contents of the bin and tape on the side. Place the bin on top of the plastic containers.

  • Fold small articles of clothing such as bathing suits and lingerie. Place items in a drawer organizer to place next to the plastic bins.

  • Put shoes in a hanging plastic shoe storage. Lay on top of the bins. By placing the shoes on top of the bins rather than at the bottom of the trunk, you prevent them from becoming misshapen from the weight of the clothing. Take your hanging garments and place in a garment bag to lay on top of the shoes.
