2001 Dodge Durango Dash Removal

The 2001 Dodge Durango pickup has a dash panel that houses the radio, heat controls, gauges and light panel. When you need to remove this panel, whether to detail the truck or to install a new radio, the panel comes off with a few simple steps and hand tools. You can remove this panel in your workshop or parking lot. When removing the dash panels, take care not to break the plastic or tear the nylon cushioning.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Set the emergency brake and shift the gearing into "Low." If you have an adjustable steering column, move it up as far as possible.

  • Unscrew the attachment screws around the instrument panel. Find these screws under the speedometer. Use the flathead screwdriver to gently pry the panel from around the gauge bezels--the outer ridges of the speedometer and other gauges.

  • Pull out on the panel around the bezels. Pull far enough to disconnect the clips holding the panel against the steering column. Disconnect all wire plugs that are now exposed.

  • Unscrew the three set screws around the knee bolster--the separating hump between the driver and passenger side. Use the flathead screwdriver to gently pry the panel from the knee bolster. Pull out until the clip by the emergency brake pops out.

  • Open the glove box and locate the top and bottom screws along the inner edge of the container. Pry the panel section away from the dash with the flathead screwdriver and remove the panel. Pop off the instrument panel to the left of the glove box.

  • Unscrew the series of set screws on the top of the glove box and remove the glove box and panel surrounding it.
