Remote Start Help for a Mercury Mariner

As automobile technology evolved into the early 2000s, keyless remote entry and start systems became indispensible features on most cars around the world. Among the popular SUVs that feature this technology is the Mercury Mariner. The Mariner's remote start system allows you to start your car from inside your house or as far as 200 feet. It also gives you remote access to the vehicle's locks, trunk and panic alarm.

Preparing to Program the Remote

  • To begin programming your Mercury Mariner keyless entry remote, enter your vehicle with each keyless remote that you wish to program and your ignition key. Be sure to close all of the doors and the trunk behind you. Insert your key into the ignition once you are sitting in the driver's seat and turn the key from the starting "Off" position to the "Run" position eight times in quick succession. End the cycle on the "Run" position after the eighth turn. At this point the door locks with cycle to indicate that the programming sequence has begun and you will now be ready to program your remotes.

Programming Your Remote

  • To program your first remote, simply press any button on the remote within 20 seconds of the pre-programming sequence. After pressing a button on your remote, the locks will again cycle to indicate that the programming was successful and you are now free to use that remote. To program any additional remotes, simply press a button on the extra remote within 20 seconds of the last remote. The locks will again cycle and the programming will be complete. Once you have finished with all of your remotes, turn the ignition back to the "Off" position and remove the key to end the programming sequence.

Using the Remote

  • To lock the doors with your remote, simply press the lock button. To unlock the driver's door on your Mariner, press the unlock button once. To unlock all of the doors, double-press the button. Sounding the panic alarm is as easy as pressing the alarm button once. To turn the alarm on, press and hold the button, and then press and hold it again to turn the alarm off.

The remote start is turned on by pressing the lock button once and then pressing and holding the ignition button on your remote. The engine will run for ten minutes before turning off if you do not manually start the car. To end the pre-ignition before ten minutes is up, press the lock button on your remote again and press and hold the start button again until the engine turns off.
