How to Replace a Celica Tail Light

One of the most common malfunctions that draws attention to your vehicle is a broken tail light. In most vehicles, fixing this is a pretty simple job. If you are the owner of a Toyota Celica, your repair is slightly different from other vehicles, but it is still easy enough to do at home. Do it yourself and save some money.

Things You'll Need

  • Lightbulb #382
  • Screwdriver
  • Engage the vehicle's parking brake and turn off the ignition.

  • Open the trunk and locate the screws at the top of the tail light assembly. Make sure the trunk is open to ensure easier access to the screws.

  • Remove the screws from the top of the tail light assembly by turning them counterclockwise and set them aside for later use.

  • Remove the cornering light cover with a screwdriver. Sticking the end of the screwdriver between the tail light and cornering light cover should pop it open.

  • Remove the retaining screws from the area under the cornering light cover by turning them counterclockwise. Gently pull the entire tail light assembly from the vehicle. It should easily come out after the retaining screws have been removed.

  • Pull the bulb socket from the rear of the assembly and removed the old bulb by turning it counterclockwise. Discard the old bulb and insert the new bulb into the socket by turning it clockwise until it is secure. Insert the bulb socket back into the rear of the tail light assembly.

  • Insert the tail light assembly back into the rear of the vehicle. Screw in the retaining screws that were used earlier by turning them clockwise, including the screw located at the top of the tail light assembly. Snap the cornering cover back on, close the trunk and test out the new tail light to ensure it is working properly.
