How to Release the Tension on a Belt Tensioner Pully on a Chrysler Lebaron

The Chrysler Lebaron's engine uses a serpentine belt which runs several engine parts at the same time. The tension on the belt is applied by a central belt tensioner located in the front of the engine. To remove or replace the serpentine belt, you will need to release the tension created by the tensioner pulley.

Things You'll Need

  • Open end wrench
  • Socket wrench set
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable of the Chrysler Lebaron from the battery post with an open end wrench before attempting to loosen the belt tensioner pulley.

  • Locate the belt tensioner pulley in the front of the Lebaron engine. The pulley will be near the left side of the engine about halfway down.

  • Turn the bolt in the center of the pulley counterclockwise using a socket wrench to release the tension on the belt tensioner pulley.
