How to Clean 2005 Ford Escape Fuel Injectors

If you've noticed your 2005 Ford Escape isn't as powerful as it was when it was new, or if the engine has been misfiring or knocking, you may need to clean the fuel injectors. Over the course of many miles, fuel residue builds up on the injectors. This can clog the injectors and impede the engine's efficiency and performance, and can lead to worse problems if left untreated for too long. Luckily, its very easy to clean your Ford Escape's fuel injectors. You can do it without even getting your hands dirty.

Things You'll Need

  • 2005 Ford Escape with a gasoline-fueled engine
  • Fuel-injector-cleaning fuel additive
  • Make sure your Ford Escape is turned off. Open your Ford Escape's gas tank.

  • Pour the whole bottle of fuel injector cleaning fuel-additive into the gas tank.

  • Close the gas tank and dispose of the bottle properly.

  • Start the engine.

  • Set the Escape's parking brake and shift into neutral. Let the engine run for about 15 minutes. Rev the engine for 30 seconds every two minutes. This should be enough time to completely clean the injectors.
