How to Remove a Jeep Wrangler Top

During the warmer months of the year, you can remove the hard top from your Jeep Wrangler and enjoy the wind blowing through your hair. The top is designed to be removed quickly. It is safe to drive with the top off because your Jeep is equipped with a factory roll bar. You will need someone to help you lift the top off your Jeep Wrangler and a secure place to store it when not in use.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Open the rear tailgate and locate the windshield washer fluid and power connector. This is located on the driver's side of the top. Press the two release levers on the side of the connector and pull the two apart. Pull the plastic windshield washer tube from the connector.

  • Locate the bolts that secure the top to the Jeep. There are three bolts on each side of the Jeep. Remove these bolts with a screwdriver.

  • Open both doors of your Jeep. Lower the sun visor near the windshield to expose the retaining latches. There is a latch on each side of the vehicle. Pull up on the latches manually.

  • Lift the top from the Jeep with a helper and place it on a level surface.
