How Do I Open the Gas Tank on a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T?

The 2003 Volkswagen Jetta came in four different levels, all of which offered either a 1.8-liter or 1.9-liter turbocharged engine. The Jetta also came as a sedan or a wagon. Whether the Jetta is a loaded or base model, the standard features in the vehicle are meant to appeal to the consumer. All levels, engines and transmission options offer power features, including an electronic fuel door release. Turbocharged Jettas require premium fuel.

  • Sit in the driver's seat of your Volkswagen Jetta.

  • Open your driver's door for a better view of the location of the fuel door release, as it is rather tucked away.

  • Look beneath the power window location on the driver's-side door by the storage compartment.

  • Note the two buttons--the one with the picture of a gas pump releases the fuel door, while the other releases the trunk. The lock is for the trunk; it has nothing do with releasing the fuel door.

  • Lift the gas button just the same as you do to close your power windows. The fuel door is on the passenger's-side of the vehicle.

  • Turn the gas cap to access the fuel tank.
