How to Replace a Side Marker Lamp on a Buick

The side marker light on the Buick is useful as it lets oncoming traffic know there is a vehicle in the next lane. Located within the light assemblies, the light can be replaced within minutes. The taillight assembly houses all the necessary rear lights and makes replacement simple. The bulb can be purchased at any local automotive-parts store. This tutorial uses the 2008 Buick LaCrosse for the bulb replacement but the process is similar in other Buicks.

Things You'll Need

  • Bulb number GM-194
  • Open the trunk to access the bulb assembly. Remove the convenience net if the trunk is equipped with one.

  • Locate the four plastic wiring nuts that are retaining the trunk trim. There will be two on the driver side of the trunk and two on the passenger side. Pull back the trunk trim.

  • Unscrew the two wing nuts holding the taillamp assembly in place. Gently pull the taillamp assembly out. Disconnect by hand the wiring harness that is fed into the side of the assembly.

  • Locate the side marker light on the taillamp assembly. Looking at the inside of the taillamp assembly, the bulb will be attached to the last socket.

  • Turn the socket counterclockwise and pull the socket out of the assembly. Gently pull the bulb out of the socket.

  • Push the new bulb in the socket. Insert the socket back in to the taillight assembly. Turn it clockwise to secure it.

  • Position the assembly back in its place. Twist the wing nuts clockwise to secure the assembly to the car.

  • Put the trunk trim back in position. Tighten the four wing nuts to secure it.

  • Position the convenience net if applicable. Close the trunk.
