Headlights are an important safety feature on your vehicle. Driving at night without them can result in a ticket or cause a serious traffic accident. When your headlights stop working on your 1998 Ford Ranger, all you need is a few minutes and a new bulb. Replacing a burnt-out headlight bulb in your Ford Ranger does not require removing the headlight assembly.
Open the hood.
Pull the electrical connector from the back of the burnt-out bulb. Reach between the engine compartment and the headlight assembly to do this.
Rotate the bulb retainer ring counterclockwise and take it off the bulb base.
Pull the used bulb out of the socket. You don't need to turn the bulb to remove it.
Insert the new bulb into the socket with the flat side up. Be sure the grooves in the bulb base are lined up with the grooves in the socket.
Reassemble the bulb retainer ring and electrical connector reversing steps 2 and 3.
