Chevy Malibu Keyless Entry Programming Instructions

Keyless remote entry allows car owners to unlock and lock doors from a distance. If you own a 2000 or earlier Chevy Malibu, you can program the keyless remote yourself. For 2001 and newer models, you have to go to the dealership to have the remotes programmed.

  • Get in the driver's seat and close the door. All the doors must be completely closed to program the remote.

  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position and then to the "Off" position. Do not turn on the engine.

  • Take the key out of the ignition.

  • Push and hold the driver's side lock/unlock button in the "Unlock" position. You will be holding the button until step 7.

  • Put the key in the ignition and remove two times without turning the key.

  • Reinsert the key into the ignition and leave it.

  • Release the "Unlock" button. There will be three beeps to let you know you've entered the "program mode."

  • Push the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the remote at the same time. Hold the two buttons until the car beeps twice.

  • Repeat step 8 with each remote you need to program. You can do this for up to four remotes.
