How to Reset a Chevy 5500 6.6L Fuel Filter Light

The fuel filter on your Chevy Silverado 5500 6.6L is responsible for filtering the gasoline that runs through your truck's fuel system. The 5500 uses a rather large fuel filter and when it becomes clogged, you must replace the unit. You'll know when you need to replace the fuel filter because the fuel filter light will illuminate on the dash. Once you've replaced the fuel filter, the light should reset. If it doesn't, you can reset the light manually.

  • Turn the ignition key to the "on" position but do not crank the engine.

  • Press firmly on both the gas and the brake pedals.

  • Hold the gas and brake pedals down for 10 seconds until the message on the dash display reads "fuel filter life reset."
