How to Install Weatherstripping on an S10 Pickup

Replacing the weatherstripping on a Chevy S10 pickup improves the seal formed between the door and door frame when the door closes. This prevents air and moisture from entering the vehicle. Old weatherstripping will crack and wear down over time. After several years, worn-out weatherstrips lose their shape and ability to seal the door closed. Replacing weatherstrips should take an afternoon of your time if you possess basic maintenance skills.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle-nose pliers or side cutters
  • Plastic cup or container
  • Rag
  • Degrease agent
  • New weatherstripping
  • Locate the clips securing the weatherstripping to the vehicle. Remove each one with a pair of needle-nose pliers or side cutters. Place the clips into a plastic cup or container.

  • Pull the weatherstripping off the car. Each piece should slides right off the channel in the door frame. Use your hands to pull the weatherstripping free of the door.

  • Apply degrease agent to a rag and wipe along the door frame, over the weatherstripping channel, to remove all the grease and dirt.

  • Slide the weatherstripping onto the weatherstrip channel on the door frame. The channel should fit into the groove on the back of the weatherstripping. Continue to slide the weatherstripping over this channel with your hands until the entire piece is secured on the vehicle.

  • Attach the clips to the weatherstripping, pushing them over the stripping and securing them to the Chevy S10's door frame. They will snap into place when properly attached.
