How to Repair the Chevy Blazer Instrument Cluster

If the instrument cluster on your Chevrolet Blazer is malfunctioning, the most common issue is the instrument cluster fuse. Replacing the fuse will thus usually remedy the situation. If the fuse is not the problem, then the next best solution is to simply replace the entire instrument cluster. Replacement instrument clusters can be purchased online or from your local Chevy dealership. As the instrument cluster contains a lot of instruments and gauges essential for operating your Blazer, you should always make sure it is in working order.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement 15A fuse
  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver

Replacing the Instrument Cluster Fuse

  • Turn off the engine of the Blazer.

  • Remove the cover of the instrument panel fuse-block by rotating the plastic fastener on the cover to the left. Replacement fuses and the fuse extractor tool are located on the underside of the cover.

  • Use the fuse extractor to remove the fuse in slot 4. This is the instrument cluster fuse.

  • Install a replacement 15A fuse and reattach the cover to the instrument panel fuse-block.

Replacing the Instrument Cluster

  • Open the hood of the Blazer and, using a socket wrench, remove the negative battery cable.

  • Remove the two screws on the underside of the upper dash panel above the instrument cluster. Remove the upper dash panel.

  • Remove the two bolts securing the instrument cluster to the Blazer. Slide the cluster towards you and reach behind it to disconnect its electrical-connectors. Pull the cluster out of the vehicle.

  • Place the replacement cluster into the Blazer and reconnect the electrical-connectors. Reinstall the bolts and reattach the upper dash panel. Reconnect the battery.
