How to Change a Headlight in a 2003 Dodge Ram

The headlights in your 2003 Dodge Ram need to be replaced when the filament burns out. Because there are many different aftermarket manufacturers of headlights for the Dodge Ram, you'll want to use the part number on the base of the old headlight as a reference when purchasing a new headlight. Replacement headlights can be purchased from most auto parts stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement headlight
  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • Open the hood of your Dodge Ram and locate the electrical power connector plugged into the back of the headlight housing.

  • Unbolt the two bolts on the inside edge of the headlight housing assembly using a socket wrench.

  • Unbolt the remaining mounting bolt on the housing that is located on the bottom of the housing assembly toward the fender.

  • Slide the housing assembly forward.

  • Unplug the power connector running to the back of the headlight assembly.

  • Turn the headlight counterclockwise one-quarter turn and pull the headlight out of the housing assembly.

  • Insert the replacement headlight by aligning the tabs on the headlight with the notches in the housing assembly. Then turn the headlight clockwise to lock it into the housing.

  • Reconnect the power connector to the back of the housing assembly and slide the housing back into the chassis. Then, secure the housing with the mounting bolts using a socket wrench.
