How to Remove the Backseats Out of a 2001 Impala

The back seat of the Chevrolet Impala is designed to create more space for the driver, if needed, by folding the back seat down. The back seat can also be taken out in a matter of minutes if you need that area for cargo. The back seat design also makes customizing simple as there are not a lot of steps for taking the seat out of the car.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • Open the back door to access the back seat. This will also give you room to work.

  • Push the bottom section of the back seat down and push it toward the back of the car. This will release the clamp holding the bottom portion in place. Tilt it up and slide it out of the side door.

  • Lower the seat back down as if you were accessing the trunk. Locate all the bolts in the seat frame. The seat frame is attached to the back dash.

  • Unscrew the bolts with a socket wrench. This will release the seat back from the trunk dash.

  • Unscrew the bolts at the bottom of the seatbacks with a socket wrench. This will release the seatback.

  • Slide the seatback out of the side door. You may need assistance to lift it out of the car.
