How to Wire Gentex Mirrors

Gentex mirrors are electronic auto-dimming mirrors that adjust to exterior light conditions. Because they are electric they need to be wired to your car's fuse system. Even if you don't know much about electronics or cars you can complete this task in just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Electrical tape
  • Take the wiring that runs from the rear of your Gentex mirror and run it to the hole in the dash that leads to the electrical fuses. Consult your car's manual for the exact location of your fuses, but on many vehicles they are located behind the lower part of your dash.

  • Use your screwdriver to remove the screws on the dash panel in front of the fuses and remove the panel to expose the fuses. Slide the Gentex wiring through the access hole on the front of the dash panel.

  • Locate an ignition-based fuse on the panel. This is a fuse that controls electronics that start upon ignition of the car. The location of these fuses will be detailed in your car's user guide.

  • Plug the two Gentex wires into the ports on the front of the fuse, making sure they are secure. Replace the dash panel and screws.
