How to Change Rear Quarter Panels

The rear quarter panels on your vehicle are between the rear door and the rear bumper. The rear quarter panels hide the metal frame and help give your vehicle's body its shape. The rear quarter panels are held in place by securing bolts inside the wheel housing. To access the securing bolts you will need to raise the rear end of the vehicle and remove the rear wheels from the frame and remove the wheel well cover from the wheel housing. You will need a screwdriver and a ratchet set to complete this job correctly.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire iron
  • Car jack
  • Jack stands
  • Screwdriver
  • Ratchet set
  • Remove the lug nuts from the rear wheels using the tire iron. Raise the rear right and left side of the vehicle using the car jack and rest the rear end of the vehicle onto jack stands. Pull the rear wheels off of the frame.

  • Locate and remove the screws securing the cover to the frame inside the wheel housing using the screwdriver. Pull the cover out of the wheel housing.

  • Locate the bolts that are securing the rear quarter panels to the frame of the vehicle. Remove the securing bolts using the ratchet set.

  • Pull the rear quarter panels off of the vehicle's frame and place the rear quarter panels in a clean dry area.
