How to Install a Transmission Mount on a VW

The transmission mount on a Volkswagen is located under the VW in the middle of the transmission and mounted on the cross member that runs the width of the transmission. The transmission mount is a small black piece of rubber holding the transmission in place on the cross member. The mount is in the center of the cross member and held in place by a bolt. The transmission mount is not difficult to remove or install and will only take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Ratchet set
  • New transmission mount
  • Raise the front end of the Volkswagen and rest both sides of the front end on jack stands. Get under the Volkswagen and locate the transmission mount.

  • Loosen the bolt with the ratchet set in the middle of the cross member (metal beam) that the transmission is connected to. Place the jack under the transmission and raise the transmission up one inch to relieve the weight of the transmission from the mount.

  • Remove the securing bolt completely from the transmission and cross member. Pull the transmission mount out from between the transmission and the cross member.

  • Place the new transmission mount between the transmission and the cross member. Line up the holes on the mount with the holes on the cross member and transmission. Insert the securing bolt and tighten the bolt using the ratchet set.

  • Remove the jack stands using the jack and lower the VW back onto the ground.
