How to Reset an Oil Change Light on a Buick Rendezvous

The oil life system in the Buick Rendezvous is designed to trigger the change oil light illuminated on the instrument panel or the optional driver information center (DIC) at 3,000-mile intervals. The procedure to reset the oil life system is different depending on whether your Rendezvous is equipped with the DIC or not. Neither require any tools, and it doesn't take more than a minute to do. If the do-it-yourself oil change enthusiast wants to restore the oil life to 100 percent after changing the oil, follow one of these procedures.

Buick Rendezvous With DIC

  • Turn the ignition key to the accessory power position. This is also known as the key-on/engine off position. It powers all the electrical equipment in the Rendezvous without the engine running.

  • Depress the mode button on the DIC display until it reads "Oil Life Left/Hold Set To Reset."

  • Depress the set button and hold it down until the DIC display reads 100 percent.

  • Listen for three chimes.

  • Start the Rendezvous to make sure the oil change light is no longer displayed in the DIC. If you didn't hear the three chimes or the oil change light is still on, the system was not reset.

Buick Rendezvous Without DIC

  • Turn the ignition key to the key-on/engine off position.

  • Depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds.

  • Turn the ignition key to the off position.

  • Start the Rendezvous to ensure the change oil light is no longer displayed on the instrument panel. If it is still there, the system was not reset. Repeat the procedure.
