Nameplates on automobiles—you see them all the time. From automobile manufacturers to dealerships, nameplates are installed on automobiles to display the name of the car, the specific model and which dealer is selling the car. Nameplates are attached to your automobile with an adhesive that leaves a residue when removed. To remove nameplates from your automobile, you need to be careful not to damage your car's finish or leave behind any adhesive that may collect dirt and grime.
Wipe the nameplate and the area around the nameplate with a soft cloth or towel to remove any loose dust and dirt.
Place a hair dryer 1 inch from the nameplate you want to remove from your automobile. Move the hair dryer slowly from side to side soften the adhesive behind the nameplate.
Run a piece of dental floss behind the nameplate. Cut into the adhesive by moving the dental floss up and down as you move across the back of the nameplate. Warm the nameplate with the hair dryer, as needed.
Use a small screwdriver to slowly lift and pull the nameplate from your automobile. Do not dig into the adhesive with the screwdriver and try not to scratch the car's finish.
Continue using the hair dryer, dental floss and small screwdriver until the nameplate is free from the automobile.
Apply 2 tsp. of isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover to a soft cloth or towel.
Blot the adhesive residue with the alcohol/adhesive remover-soaked cloth or towel. Do not rub the adhesive residue—just blot it free from the automobile.
Fold the cloth or towel in half. Reapply alcohol or adhesive remover to the cloth or towel.
Continue blotting the residue until it is gone.
Spray the area with water from a hose.
Apply 1 tbsp. of a automotive wash to a clean cloth or towel.
Wash the area with the soapy cloth or towel. Rinse with water from a hose.
Dry the area with a clean, dry cloth or towel.
Apply 1 tbsp. of car wax to the clean area on your automobile. Use the sponge that is part of the car wax to apply the substance.
Let the car wax sit for the recommended time on the car wax's container.
Buff the area with a clean cloth or towel to remove excess wax.
