How to Replace the Power Steering Hose in a Murano

Your Murano is equipped with state-of-the-art power steering control to make controlling your vehicle nearly hands free. (nearly). The power steering pump provides pressurized fluid that drives the steering mechanism, giving you the feel of control without the work of turning the gears yourself. Your vehicle has a pump line that connects the power steering pump to the steering gears and provides pressure to move the wheels back and forth. Occasionally this line can become damaged by road debris or by rubbing against other components and will need to be replaced.

Things You'll Need

  • Large crescent wrench
  • Small crescent wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Shop towel
  • Allow your vehicle to cool down completely before beginning this procedure.

  • Place the drip pan under the pump, and use your small crescent wrench by turning counterclockwise to remove the drain plug located at the bottom of the power steering pump. Your pump is located against the right firewall.

  • Allow the fluid to drain until it is barely dripping.

  • Use your large crescent wrench by turning counterclockwise to loosen the top line nut until free of the threads. The line will not come loose yet.

  • Use your large crescent wrench to loose the bottom line nut by turning it counterclockwise until it is free of the threads. Push up slightly on the line and it will come free of the seat. Remove the old line.

  • Use your small crescent wrench turning clockwise to reinstall the drain plug. Use the shop towel to clean up any residual fluid.

  • Install the new line top first by placing the opening over the internal seat. Perform the same procedure with the bottom of the line at the same time. Be careful to line up the threads of both ends before tightening.

  • Use your large crescent wrench to tighten each line nut by turning clockwise a few threads at a time until they are both secure and snug. Do not over-tighten as this will damage the threads and cause leaks.

  • Fill the pump reservoir with the appropriate type of hydraulic fluid to the fill line.
