How to Replace the Battery in a Yukon Key FOB

The GMC Yukon remote keyless entry (RKE) system enables drivers to lock and unlock the doors with the touch of a remote. Some Yukons even have a remote-start feature that lets you fire up the vehicle from almost 200 feet away. These features are ridiculously convenient, at least until the key fob battery dies, which is inevitable over time. Fortunately, it's incredibly simple to replace the battery in the Yukon key fob. The GMC Yukon discussed here is a 2009 model, but the process is similar for other model years.

Things You'll Need

  • Dime
  • Replacement battery
  • Insert a dime or some other flat, thin object into the side of the Yukon key fob. Carefully twist the dime to pry apart the transmitter halves.

  • Lift out the battery, using your fingers and without touching the circuitry on the key fob (static electricity could ruin the transmitter).

  • Set the new battery down (CR2032 or equivalent battery) into the key fob so that the positive side of the battery faces downward.

  • Put the two key fob halves together again by snapping them into place.

  • Test the transmitter for correct operation.
