How to Remove Snow From a Convertible Automobile Top

Heavy snow can damage convertible tops. According to the National Ag Safety Database, 1 square foot of snow weighs 20 lbs. Too much weight on the top causes sagging, ripping and other damage. The damage can lead to leaks or having to replace the top. The added weight can also cause damage to the various parts holding the roof in place. Clean snowfall off the car as soon as possible, even if the car won't be driven for a while.

Things You'll Need

  • Broom with wooden handle
  • Ice scraper with a soft-bristled brush
  • Grip the broom handle firmly with both hands towards the lower fourth of the handle. Using short, strong strokes, sweep snow off the sides of the convertible.

  • Using the same method, sweep the top of the convertible off. Push the snow to the ground on either side of the car.

  • Brush the snow off the hood. When driving, the snow can blow up and obstruct the driver's view.

  • Grip the scraper with both hands and scrape ice off the windows. Do not scrape the plastic back window; the scraper may scratch it.
