How to Replace a Hood Emblem on a BMW

The Rroundel on a BMW, or the badge, is one of the most noticeable things on the front and rear of the car. A chipped and faded Roundel is obvious and detracts from the car's appearance. Luckily, this part is very easy to replace by following the correct procedure.

Things You'll Need

  • New roundel (or two if the back is being replaced as well)
  • New rubber grommets
  • Screwdriver with tape wrapped around it
  • Credit card
  • Cleaning supplies (Simple Green, etc.)
  • Clean the old Roundel and the area around it so there is no dirt and debris. This will minimize the chances of the paint getting scratched during the removal of the badge.

  • To remove the badge, slide either the flat head screwdriver with tape wrapped around it or the credit card under the badge, working your way around each side a little at a time. You can also use both simultaneously. The badge should simply pop out if you go slowly and carefully. It may fly out, so be ready to catch it so it doesn't scratch the paint.

  • Remove the old grommets that are going to be sitting on the other side of the hood if they did not come out with the Roundel.

  • Once the badge is removed, clean the area under it. Dirt will have built up here.

  • Slide the new grommets onto the new Roundel. Do not break the studs on the Roundel.

  • Position the grommets over the holes in the hood and gently press straight down until the Roundel is flush with the hood.
