The Ford Escape was introduced in 2001 to compete with other vehicles in the small SUV segment. The Ford Escape shares all of its components with the Mazda Tribute; most repair procedures are interchangeable between the vehicles. Removing the door panel from your Escape will give you access to the internal power switches, including the window motor and the door lock actuator.
Raise the window of the door panel you wish to remove. Disconnect the negative battery cable and engage the parking brake for safety.
Remove the sail panel trim from the upper portion of the door panel. The sail panel panel is attached by clips; pop the panel off and disconnect the power window switch (if equipped).
Pull the interior door handle towards you to access the door handle trim screw. Remove the screw and slide the door handle panel off the door panel.
Pry up the window switch control panel and disconnect the electrical modules. Set the panel aside. Remove the three panel-mounting screws on the lower portion of the door panel.
Use the trim panel tool to help you pop the door panel clips from the door. Work your way around the entire door, until all of the clips are removed. Carefully remove the panel from the door.
