Whenever a repair is done on any part of your Scion xB's manual transmission system, air will make its way into the hydraulic fluid. This air will cause your clutch to perform poorly, giving the pedal a soft or spongy feel, and can even damage your master cylinder or slave cylinder. Getting the air out of the system is done by a process called "bleeding," and all bleeding is done through a valve underneath your clutch slave cylinder.
Top off the clutch fluid reservoir with brake fluid. The reservoir can be found at the back of the engine compartment and will be the smaller of the two hydraulic fluid reservoirs (the other one being the brake fluid reservoir).
Locate the clutch slave cylinder and the bleeder valve underneath it. This can be found on the passenger side of the car connected to a fluid line leading out from the transmission. You may find it easier to access this by lifting the car with a jack and jack stands and then getting underneath it. Make sure the bleeder valve is tightly screwed in.
Have someone else sit inside the Scion and have them slowly press the clutch all the way to the ground and hold it there until you tell them to release it.
Loosen the bleeder valve with a wrench until a bit of bubbling brake fluid squirts out. Then tighten the valve and tell the person in the car to release their foot from the clutch.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the fluid coming out of the bleeder valve is clear brake fluid. This may take six or seven repetitions before it happens.
Top off the clutch fluid reservoir.
