If you have noticed that your car's mileage has plummeted, you may have a problem with your fuel injector. Cleaning the fuel injector is nearly always the best way to resolve this type of issue. There are two ways to do this: one way is a very do-it-yourself job, and the other is more technical and only appropriate for the mechanically inclined with specialized tools. Either method is an option, but be sure that you have a basic understanding of how your car works and is put together before attempting either alternative.
Pour the fuel injector cleaner into your gas tank. It can be poured directly into the tank. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how much to pour in. It depends on the size of your tank and possibly the make and model of your car.
Drive the car for 50 to 100 miles and let the solution in your tank flow through the plugged injector, which may clean it out. If it works, you will notice improved performance from your Honda, as well as improved gas mileage. If the cleaning and driving have no effect, you must do an injector flush.
Hook up the flushing machine to the fuel injector that has become plugged. Generally this is simply an issue of attaching the hose to the fuel injector. The injector is located underneath the car; consult your owner's manual to spot the exact location because it may vary slightly by year.
Turn on the flushing machine. The chemical solution inside the flushing machine will be sent into the fuel injector at a very high pressure, and literally blast out the nozzle as well as clean out any gunk left inside.
Disconnect the flushing machine. At this point, you can be assured that your fuel injector has been completely cleaned.
