How To Remove a Sun Visor

There may be a time when you'll need to remove a sun visor from your vehicle, such as for a repair, or replacing it with a new one. Most sun visors are easy to remove. Armed with a few tools and a gentle hand, you can easily take this part off without damaging it or the headliner in your car.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Locate the visor's mounting bracket. Many brackets have a cover hiding the screws that hold the sun visor in place.

  • Use a flat head screwdriver to carefully pry the top corners of the cover up. Do this gently because the plastic is thin and can easily crack and break. If your vehicle doesn't have this cover, skip this step.

  • Pop the cover off and you'll see some Phillips head screws. Hold the sun visor up with your arm so both hands are free. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove all the screws. You may need to apply a little force to budge them. Put the screws in a safe place so they don't get lost.

  • Remove the sun visor from the headliner of the vehicle. It may just fall off once all the screws have been removed. Or you may have to give it a gentle tug.
