How to Replace Brake Shoes on a Suzuki Xl7

The Suzuki XL7 SUV is fairly easy to maintain. The brake pads and brake shoes are items that need to be replaced from time to time, and it can easily be done by any home mechanic.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • Jack stands
  • Socket wrench set
  • Lug nut wrench
  • New brake pads

Changing Brake Pads and Shoes

  • Park the XL7 on a level, safe work space and slide the car jack under the front of the car. Jack the car up so that the driver's side front tire is off of the ground by a few inches. Secure the raised car with jack stands.

  • Use the lug nut wrench to loosen and remove the lug nuts and remove the wheel. Use the socket wrench to remove the two mounting bolts on the top and bottom of the caliper on the back side of the brake disc.

  • Turn the caliper over and pull the two brake shoes out of the caliper. Insert the new brake shoes in their place. Slide the caliper back into place and retighten the mounting bolts.

  • Slide the wheel back onto the wheelstuds and tighten down the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench. Remove the jack stand and lower the car off of the jack . Repeat steps 1-4 for the other three wheels.
