Removing the Rear Wiper on a Chevy Trailblazer

The Problem

  • The rear wiper blade and arm on the Chevy Trailblazer has a history of not functioning like it should, and Chevrolet designed an improved version for the 2007 and up models. For Trailblazers manufactured prior to 2007, the company offered a conversion kit to the 2007 wiper arm and blade. The problem with the original blade was that it did not wipe the rear window properly and often became misaligned, and it did not seat properly against the arm-stop in the off position.

The Solution

  • The conversion kit is meant to remove the entire original wiper arm by lifting the bottom base of the arm upwards (prying it up with a flathead screwdriver) to expose the retaining nut. Removing the nut releases the arm and the new one can then be placed on the wiper arm spindle, and the nut replaced. It also replaced the ramp and stop of the original arm to fit the newer arm.

The Wiper Blade

  • The wiper blade can easily be replaced without removing the arm. A locking hook-shaped clip is located at the center of the blade hardware. A release tab, which is part of the wiper blade locking device, is pressed upward while holding the wiper arm away from the rear windshield. The wiper blade is then pulled down against the length of the wiper arm in order to unlock and release it from the wiper arm hook. A new blade can simply be slipped on, and it self-locks once in place.
