It's always important to keep your car lights in working order. The tail light is one of a number of these bulbs and is contained in a housing with other bulbs that is connected to the frame in the trunk. On a Pontiac Bonneville, these bulbs are easily accessible and take little time to change. More importantly, by changing the bulb yourself you save the labor fee that would likely triple the cost of the bulb.
Determine if you can pull the carpet in the trunk away from the frame behind the rear light housing without removing any of the securing screws. If you need to, remove screws so that you can access the nuts securing the housing.
Remove the 10-mm nuts while holding the housing securely in place. Support the housing to avoid having it hang by wires.
Pull the housing far enough away from the car to access the back of the housing. Examine the different bulb sockets and locate the socket for your burned-out tail light.
Turn your tail light socket to the left to release it from the housing. Pull the socket straight out to avoid breaking the bulb.
Remove the old bulb from the socket and replace it with a new 3057 bulb. Secure the new bulb in the socket and reinsert the socket straight into the housing. Turn the socket to the right to secure it to the housing.
Replace the housing on the Bonneville and reattach the nuts in the trunk. Reposition the carpet and replace any screws you removed.
