How to Change a Tail Light of a Pontiac Grand Prix

For anybody who owns a car long enough, a bulb will need to be replaced. In the case of a tail light, this is important to replace quickly so that you can avoid tickets or potential accidents. When changing the tail light of a Pontiac Grand Prix, the process is straightforward due to the simple design of the rear light housings. It will take you only minutes to have your car ready to go with a new bulb. Even better, it requires no tools.

Things You'll Need

  • 3057 light bulb
  • Open your trunk. You will be working directly behind the fixture of the burned-out bulb.

  • Pull the carpet away enough to expose the wing nuts secured against the trunk frame. These wing nuts hold the fixture in place. You should be able to pull the carpet down far enough without having to detach any of the plastic attachments holding the carpet in place.

  • Loosen the wing nuts while holding the fixture in place. Do not lose the nuts as they come off.

  • Carefully pull the fixture away from the car to expose the back side of the fixture. You should see sockets for each bulb in the fixture.

  • Push the tab in on the side of the socket of the burned-out bulb. Twist the socket while the tab is pressed in to release it from the housing. Pull it out to expose the bulb.

  • Pull the bulb out of the socket. Insert the new bulb in the same socket. The bulb used for the actual tail lamp is a 3057.

  • Replace the socket in the housing and twist to the opposite direction to secure it. The housing should be reattached to the car by putting it back into place and putting the wing nuts back on. Tighten the nuts.
