How to Replace an air Filter in a Chevy Camaro

Clean air filters play an important role in engine longevity and gas mileage by increasing air flow to the engine. With normal driving conditions and air filter should be changed every 30,000 miles, and every 3,000 for extremely dusty driving conditions. Replacing the air filter in a Chevy Camaro is a 10 minute or less task that can be performed by the most tentative novice.

Things You'll Need

  • New air filter
  • Turn off the vehicle before attempting to change the air filter. Don't turn the car on at any time during this maintenance process, because the filter is a protective barrier against engine backfires.

  • Locate the air filter housing unit in the front center of the engine compartment under the Camaro's hood. Look for a black box with a smooth lid that has a white label on it.

  • Release the two clips that hold the lid of the air filter housing unit in place. Lift the lid of the unit up.

  • Slide your hand under the lid and grasp the old filter. Remove the filter from the unit. Clean any remaining debris out of the box.

  • Put the new air filter in the air filter housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2118 for a 1998 to 2002 in a Chevy Camaro. Look up model numbers for earlier Camaros online (see Resources) or at your local auto part store.

  • Snap the lid on the air filter housing unit back in place. Secure the lid in place by reclamping the clips on the front of the unit.
