The Location of the OBD in a 1990 Toyota 4Runner

Available with either a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine or a 3.0-liter V-6, the 1990 SR5 was part of Toyota's second generation of 4Runner sport utility vehicles. Even though it shared the same pickup truck frame and suspension as the first generation, the 1990 4Runner sported an updated body design making it look more like an SUV instead of merely an enclosed pickup truck.

OBD DLC

  • The on-board diagnostic data link connector is located on the side of the fuse block in the engine compartment. Flip open the cap on the connector to expose the terminals. The DLC was standardized in 1996 as a result of the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Air Act. Shaped differently than what is now standard, the DCL in your 1990 4Runner accepts only a Toyota-specific OBD hand-held scanner.
