My 2000 Dodge Truck Won't Start

Perhaps one of the most frustrating things that can happen, or not happen is when you hop into your 2000 Dodge truck, put the key in the ignition, turn the key and nothing happens. There could be a number of reasons why any vehicle won't start. Some of the causes can be a fairly easy and in-expensive repair, a bad battery or faulty starter solenoid can easily be fixed. There may be other reasons why you 2000 Dodge truck may not start that could be more expensive, a problem with the fuel injections system or electronics could be more expensive.

  • Turn the key to start the engine and look to see if the radio and dashboard warning lights come on. This will tell you there is power in the battery. With the key turned so that the electrics are on, look at your fuel gauge to make sure there is fuel in tank.

  • Check the gear selector and make sure that it is securely in the "Park" position.

  • Turn the key and listen for a clicking noise, as this noise can be an indication that the battery is sending enough power to the starter motor, but the starter motor is faulty or needs replacing.

  • Open the engine hood of your 2000 Dodge truck and check the battery cables, making sure that they are connected and secured tightly. You can also check the spark plug wires to see that they are properly attached to each spark plug.

  • Turn the key again, and see if you can hear a slight "humming" noise. The humming noise should be coming from the electric fuel pump that is installed close to the gas tank. If you don't hear this sound, it may be an indication that the pump is either defective or there is no power getting to it.
